Although the injury healed, Patti Jo Roth decided not to go back to the stress of performing. She is now married to Russ Edwards, living in Los Gatos and teaching out of her home.
TEACHING: Patti Jo has taught 100s of people age 5 to 85 to play the guitar. She reminds us that we "play" music. It should be fun. Her students learn quickly to play songs and soon to play along with each other without written music. Students should be able to get music from the radio, CDs, TV or other musicians whether they can read music or not. Patti Jo provides all music to her students, often giving 2 to 5 songs in a lesson. They leave the first lesson already able to play 2 songs. "It's not about learning the songs; it's about playing music." Patti Jo Edwards
MUSIC THERAPY:
Patti Jo has many stories about adventures performing as an entertainer for the elderly (a Music Therapist). It is Therapy, because individuals who have never spoken to their caregivers have been known to sing along and share their memories after hearing a love song or even a silly song such as "Under the Bamboo Tree". Hospice residents have come out their coma and smiled even though they have not responded to anyone for weeks, taken her hand and thanked her. People with walkers get up and dance. Residents who refuse to leave their rooms make it out for the monthly birthday party to see Patti Jo and hear her songs. It is love.
